In Michigan, a first-time OWI conviction will result in a mandatory six-month driver’s license suspension. That’s six months of relying on ridesharing companies and family members to get from point A to point B (unless the driver obtains a restricted license after 30 days).
However, multiple OWI convictions result in worse penalties.

If someone is convicted for multiple OWIs, they will likely face extreme penalties that impact their driver’s license. If someone is convicted of two OWIs within seven years of each other, he or she will lose their license for a minimum of one year.
Additionally, someone who is convicted of two OWIs within seven years is not eligible for a restricted license, which means they will assuredly rely on others to get around.
If someone is convicted of a second-time OWI and his license had been revoked in the last seven years, his license will be revoked for a minimum of 5 years!
